Following what police claim was an hour-long pursuit, one man has been arrested by officers of the Lyon County sheriff’s office. Nevada authorities are still looking into the case, but the man in question has been accused of drunk driving as well as a host of other infractions. The sheriff’s office has asked that anyone with information about the lengthy incident contact the office with more details.

According to the police report, the 34-year-old man was suspected by deputies of driving under the influence of alcohol. The report does not mention why deputies believed this, but it does confirm that they attempted to initiate a traffic stop. At this point, they say, the driver fled the scene in his vehicle.

Police vehicles pursued the man for an hour on a route that included Interstate 80 and ended on tribal land. Apparently a tribal law enforcement officer’s vehicle collided with the man’s car, ending the chase. The man was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence as well as assaulting a peace officer, reckless driving, hit and run and felony eluding. Bail has not been set at this time, nor has a court date been publicly announced.

The charges against this man are diverse and will require specific defense dealing with each. However, in the case of the drunk driving charge, Nevada police will need to provide compelling evidence of the man’s intoxicated state if a conviction on that charge is to be made. If officers did not conduct roadside sobriety tests or blood tests in accordance with the man’s rights, that specific charge may be dropped.
