An out-of-state man is facing drug charges in northeast Nevada after he was stopped for a traffic violation on Dec. 2. The suspect was pulled over while driving on I-80 for a taillight violation. He now faces charges of drug possession and trafficking.

The Colorado man was traveling west of Elko when police officers pulled him over that Friday night. The officers purportedly smelled pot and subsequently searched the suspect’s car. They then allegedly found four large duffel bags in his possession, filled with a total of approximately 70 pounds of marijuana.

The local chief of police stated that, while searching the vehicle, officers also discovered a meth pipe under the front seat. In addition, authorities later claim to have discovered three Hydrocodone pills in the man’s pocket. He was ticketed for the taillight violation, in addition to the other drug charges. The 28-year-old is facing a number of allegations in relation to his alleged drug crimes, including one count of trafficking marijuana, one count of selling and possession of a controlled substance, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Any residents of Nevada who find themselves accused of drug crimes, including possession or trafficking, will most likely want to consider retaining a criminal defense attorney. The representation of a lawyer with experience in similar cases can prove invaluable in vigorously fighting on behalf of the defendant and protecting his or her legal rights. Often, the guidance and counsel of such an attorney can prove crucial in securing the best possible outcome for the accused.
